A BIT ABOUT US

The Bookham Help your Neighbour Scheme was first formed more than 40 years ago, to provide help, in various forms, to residents, who live within the Bookham parish boundary.

It ran for several years but by 1976 the scheme was running out of volunteers while requests for help grew. The launch of the Good Neighbour Campaign by the then Secretary of State for Social Services, reinforced with national publicity, helped recruit more helpers.

The scheme continued to grow and in 2011 Surrey Community Action helped us to transform The Bookham Help Your Neighbour Scheme into its present format, providing transport for local residents to medical appointments.

We have nearly 90 volunteers, who either man our mobile phone or transport our clients.  They give as much time as they choose and are not tied to any regular commitment. The Duty Volunteer’s job is to answer the calls on our mobile phone and ring round our team of volunteer drivers to fulfil the appointment.

If you feel you would like to spare a little time to help, please use this form to contact us.
